One hundred years of success, pioneering spirit, drive power and movement were celebrated by the company and all its subsidiaries around the world including MTU SA.
Founded on 23 March 1909 in Germany as an aircraft engine company Luftahrzeug-Motorenbau GmbH, MTU Friedrichshafen, whose premium-class high-speed engines are now used worldwide for powering ships, heavy land, rail and defense vehicles, and power generation plants. The men behind it were Wilhelm and Karl Maybach and Count Ferdinand van Zeppelin, names that still strike a chord with many more people in engineering than just technophiles.
MTU Friedrichshafen extended its reach to South Africa in 2001. Through that, MTU SA was born by taking over its local distributor and has since expanded around Southern Africa. As their parent company organised a series of events this year to mark its centenary, MTU SA joined in as well and took the opportunity to educate their staff about the company’s rich heritage.
MTU SA hosted two carnival themed events at both of its South African offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The events were attended by the company management, staff, friends and family where they were entertained and made aware of the company’s heavy influence in the global engineering sector.
MTU SA supplies diesel engines under a brand name that delivers quality, reliability, dependability, design adequacy and low life cycle costs. Responsible for sales and support of MTU diesel engines, MTU South Africa focuses on products in Power Generation, Mining, Marine, Construction, Rail and Defense applications in the Sub-Saharan region.
